Kate Laurence is subject Leader for the PGCE Music course at The Institute of Education. Previously, Kate taught in inner-London as an Advanced Skills Teacher of Music, Assistant Headteacher and Director of Music. As part of her AST role, Kate founded Westminster Youth Orchestra and led CPD courses for instrumental and classroom music practitioners in the local authority. Kate continues to deliver national CPD courses for music teachers. She has advised on and written content for the BBC Schools’ website and has published pupil materials for KS3 pupils with Tribal Education. Kate has carried out consultancy work for Avid Technology and is author of two music education publications for Rhinegold Education. Recently, she contributed chapters to Music Education in the 21st Century in the United Kingdom and Critical Practice in Teacher Education: A study of professional learning, both published by the IoE in 2010.
